The UMD womens hockey team, coming off 2 losses at the hands of Ohio State University, defeated the USCHO.COM 4th ranked Wisconsin Badgers 2-0 at Amsoil Arena, October 13 in the first game of a 2 game series. Brienna Gillanders (unassisted) slammed home her first goal of the season, just 1:34 into the game, cashing in on a miscommunication between Badgers' goaltender Alex Rigsby and her defenseman, when the puck slid out in front of the net to Gillanders to bury the eventual game winner, thanks to Kayla Black's 31 save performance. Jenna McParland (from Jessica Wong and Jamie Kenyon) sealed the deal for UMD, skating past the defense to create her own mini-breakaway goal, having the puck hop off Rigsby's stick, up and over her and into the net for the 2-0 final score. Rigsby finished with 15 saves on 17 UMD shots in the loss. UMD killed off all 5 Wisconsin powerplays, including a 5 minute major called on Zoe Hickel for checking from behind that ran nearly 2 minutes into the second period.

On Sunday, the UMD women completed their 2 game sweep of the Badgers, with a 1-0 win. Jessica Wong (Jenna McParland) scored the lone goal of the game at 18:12 of the first period, and Kayla Black, with help from her defense, stopped all 25 shots she faced, for a total of 56 saves in the weekend sweep. Alex Rigsby stopped 27 of 28 UMD shots to take the Badger loss for the second day in a row.
