The Thunder won their home opener, against Fergus Falls, 34-26 at Bromberg Stadium on the Cloquet High School Campus, September 4, 2010. A sloppy game, featuring a bunch of turnovers, also saw it's share of big plays. The Thunder got off to a big 28-0 lead , scoring 4 touchdowns in the first 21 minutes of the game. Quarterback Michael Davis hit on a 91 yard touchdown pass to Michael Darden with 7:28 left in the first quarter to put the Thunder on the board. Davis then hit Ronrico Ragsdale for the first of his two touchdowns, for 95 yards 1:01 into the second quarter. Three minutes later, Davis hit Michael Wallace for a 19 yard TD pass. Just 1 minute later, cornerback John Green picked off a Spartans pass and returned it 80 yards to for another Thunder touchdown. Michael Aguilera converted all 4 extra points in the first half and the Thunder had a 28-0 lead. Fergus Falls switched to running a wildcat offense for most of the remainder of the game, and scored before the half, on a 19 yard run by Eric Brown, who ran the offense from the Wildcat. The Thunder still had a 28-7 lead going to halftime.

The third quarter saw Fergus Falls running back James Norwood punch in a touchdown from 3 yards out at 9:57, and then the teams fumbled the ball back and forth in a sloppy 9 minute span.

Fergus Falls momentum continued into the fourth quarter with Brown completing a 17 yard touchdown pass to Dominik Ammermann, giving the Spartans 20 unanswered points and cutting the Thuner lead to 28-20. The Thunder added an insurance touchdown, a 4 yard pass from Davis to Ragsdale to add cushion to their lead, though Aguilera missed his only extra point when the Spartans line got through for the block. The scoring was concluded when Brown hit a touchdown pass of 15 yards. The Thunder recovered the Spartans on-side kick attempt to seal the 34-26 win.
