The Thunder once again opened their season at the MCAC Kickoff Classic on the campus of St. Cloud State University. The Thunder, playing with 6 2nd year players, took on the Central Lakes Raiders, with 19 2nd year players.

The first quarter was uneventful with both teams feeling each other out. Central Lakes opened the scoring with a touchdown reception by tight end Ryan Fay, and converted for 2 points after the Thunder had 12 men on the field during an extra point try. Central Lakes scored again, on a short run by Michael Iverson, and kicked the extra point for a 15-0 lead that they took to halftime.

Central Lakes scoring was concluded on a 1 yard sweep by Nick Grewe, and a missed extra point. The Thunder finally got on the board, with 7:43 remaining in the 4th quarter when quarterback Cody Anderson (from Albrook high school) scored on a quarterback draw, after relieving the game's starter Michael Davis. The ensuing extra point was missed 'wide left' to conclude the scoring 21-6 for Central Lakes win.

Cornerback John Green (Miami Springs High School) had a 40 yard kick return in the first half, and safety Horace Terry (Tavares Florida) intercepted a Central Lakes pass to lead the Thunder defense and special teams play.
