The Duluth Huskies got 9 strikeouts and 6 strong innings pitching from team veteran, Harvard’s Joey Novak, and 5 strikeouts in the final 3 innings from Indian Hills, Community College’s A.J. McElderry to total 14 stikeouts vs. the St. Cloud Rox at Wade Stadium in Wednesday night’s season opener. Combined, the Huskies pitchers gave up 2 hits (Novak surrendered both) in the 6-1 opening night victory.

St. Cloud State University’s Brian Hansen knocked in two runs on sacrifice flies to lead the Huskies with 2 RBI’s, while catcher Paul Karmeris, from North Florida, had three hits and an RBI. Taylor Burch (Louisiana Tech), Austin Dubberly (Montevallo), Andrew Grifol (Broward College), and Derrick Nelson (Mount Mary), all had 2 hits for the Huskies, while Nelson scored 2 runs.
