The Lumberjacks got off to a slow start but still beat the Marshall Hilltoppers 3 games to 0 in Duluth, September 22, 2011. Marshall led game one 2-7, 5-9, 8-12 and 10-13 with the Jacks tying the game at 15. Marshall took a 21-19 lead then had a 'game point' at 24-22 but a Cloquet timeout created a 'Jacks 4 point run to a 26-24 game win. The 'Jacks won the second game 25-13, including a Maddie Kiehn reverse bump/save from the basketball end lines of the court that landed in the middle of the Marshall defense for a Cloquet point. Marshall hung tough in the third and final game, with Cloquet going on a run from 8-8 to 17-9, mostly on points from Olivia Mayasich serves. The Hilltoppers got the score back to 18-21 but the Jacks closed out the match with a 25-19 game three win.
