The Cloquet girls hockey team fell to Grand Rapids/Greenway 4-2 at Northwoods Credit Union Arena, January 17, 2013. After a scoreless first period, the Lightning's Jordan McLaughlin (from Hannah Schmoll) put them on the board at 10:40 of the second period. With just one goal in two periods, the defensive battle completely opened up in the third period, with a combined 5 goals scored.

McLaughlin (Meaghan Cemensky, Schmoll) scored her second goal of the game at 5:23 of the period. Cloquet finally got on the board, at 10:10 of the period, when Rachel MaCaulay (Cassandra Inman) stuffed the puck in the Rapids net, beating goaltender Sydney Helmbrecht on the short side. At 13:11 of the third Carley Esse (unassisted) tied the game at 2 when her wrist shot from the blue line popped over Helmbrecht, hit the crossbar and came back down behind the Lightning net. The Lightning answered just 1:10 later, when Cemensky (McLaughlin, Chantak Holum) pounced on her own breakaway rebound in front of 'Jacks keeper Alyssa Acheson, for the eventual game winning goal. Kaya Baker (McLaughlin, Schmoll) finished the scoring, into the 'Jacks empty net at the buzzer for the 4-2 victory.
