The Cloquet girls basketball team fell to Grand Rapids 51-40, December 11, 2012, despite a 26-21 halftime lead. Jaiden Cofield led all scorers with 18 points (and 11 rebounds), but hit a cold streak in the second half. She was 5 of 8 from the field, 2 of 4 from beyond the three-point line in the first half, but just 2 of 9 shooting in the second half, 1 of 6 from deep. Grand Rapids couldn't capitalize on 13 Cloquet turnovers in the first half, scoring just 4 points, but doubled that in the second half, scoring 8 off 13 more Lumberjack turnovers.

The key stat for the Thunderhawks is that they made 22 free throws, going to the line 17 times in the first half and 19 times in the second half, making 11 each half. Cloquet only shot 16 free throws for the game, 4 in the second half, shooting 9 of 16 from the charity stripe. Kenzie Rathe pulled down 11 rebounds for Cloquet, despite foul trouble that saw her limited to 17 minutes of action.

Even though she herself was limited to 15 minutes of action due to foul trouble, the Thunderhawks were led by UMD Bulldog recruit Kenzie Kane's 18 points, shooting 8 of 9 from the free throw line, and scoring 12 of her 16 in the second half. Taylor Kane (also with 4 fouls) had a double double with 10 points and 11 rebounds for Grand Rapids.
